SEO case study: from 0 to 3,270 monthly visitors

The real numbers of our own project, launched in February 2026: 6,420 clicks from Google in 3 months, with no link building and no ad budget. What we did and what you can copy for your business.

The easiest way to vet an agency promising you SEO is to ask: “show me one of your own sites, with its numbers”. This is ours.

instalatori-fotovoltaice.ro is a Digital U project: a directory of solar panel installation companies in Romania, launched in February 2026, on a brand new domain with zero authority. All of its traffic comes from content.

The numbers first

From Google Search Console, on August 25, 2026, for the last 3 months:

  • 6,420 clicks from Google searches
  • 233,000 impressions (how many times the site appeared in results)
  • Average CTR 2.8%, average position 8.1

From Umami (analytics), for August (1-25):

  • 3,270 visitors, up 14% versus the previous period
  • 14% bounce rate and 2 minutes 24 seconds average visit duration, meaning people who actually read, not drive-bys

The trend matters as much as the total: 1,800 clicks per 28 days at the end of June, 2,200 mid-August, 2,500 on August 25. Growing month over month.

What we actually did

1. Over 50 guides written for real questions. Not “company blog posts”, but long, documented answers to what people actually search: how much things cost, how to apply for a subsidy program, what the new law says. Sustained rhythm, on average 2-3 per week, for months.

2. The exact words people search, not the ones we liked. The example that cost us the most until we understood it: we had written a page about “sistem fotovoltaic” (solar system), searched 40 times a month. People search “kit fotovoltaic” (solar kit): 2,900 searches a month, same topic (volumes from Google Ads data for Romania). One noun changed in a title is the difference between invisible and the page that brings traffic.

3. We picked battles a new site can win. On searches where Google shows local business map results above everything, a site without a physical location starts from behind no matter how good the content is. We went for informational questions, where the first organic result is the first thing you actually see.

4. Titles and descriptions treated as sales copy. At 233,000 impressions, the difference between a snippet Google truncates and one that answers the question means thousands of clicks. We rewrote the too-long titles and the descriptions that promised instead of answering.

5. Zero purchased links. No paid link building, no schemes. Just content worth finding. Not because links don’t matter, but because on this niche, content was the real gap versus the competition.

What this means for your business

Your niche is different, but the mechanics are identical:

  • Your customers are already googling questions you can answer better than anyone.
  • The exact words matter enormously, and they can be verified with data, not guessed.
  • A new website can compete with established players if it picks the right battleground.
  • Results don’t come overnight: the first months you build, then the curve shows.

SEO is not magic, and it’s not dead either, whatever you read in some places. It’s systematic work, measured in Search Console, not in promises.

How long it took, by stage

The number missing from most case studies is time. Ours, from Search Console data:

  • February 2026: launch on a new domain with no authority at all. The first weeks, traffic close to zero. Normal, Google needs time just to index.
  • End of June: 1,800 clicks over 28 days. This is where the curve became visible, roughly four months after launch.
  • Mid-August: 2,200 clicks over 28 days.
  • 25 August: 2,500 clicks over 28 days.

So: four months before anything worth showing, and two more to reach the numbers above. Anyone promising you SEO results in six weeks on a new domain is either selling something else or has never done it.

What we did not do

Just as useful as the list above:

  • We bought no links. Zero link building budget.
  • We ran no ads. All the traffic above is organic.
  • We did not chase the big keywords. “Panouri fotovoltaice” would have been flattering and useless: those terms are contested by companies with years of history and marketing budgets.
  • We did not write for Google. The articles are long because the questions are complicated, not to hit a word count.

Frequently asked questions

How long does SEO take to show results? In our case, on a new domain launched in February 2026, the first numbers worth showing appeared after roughly four months, and growth continued month over month after that. On a domain that already has history and traffic, the first movements usually show up sooner.

Do you need link building to grow in Google? Not always. On this project we reached 6,420 clicks in three months without a single purchased link. Not because links don’t matter, but because on that niche the real gap versus the competition was content, not authority.

How many articles does it take? More than 50 on this project, at an average pace of 2-3 per week, sustained for months. Pace matters more than the count: 50 articles published in two weeks and then silence produce far less than the same 50 spread over half a year.

How do you know what words people search for? From search volume data, not intuition. The example that cost us the most: we had written “sistem fotovoltaic”, searched 40 times a month, when people were searching “kit fotovoltaic”, 2,900 searches a month for the same topic.

Does this work the same for any business? The mechanics yes, the speed no. It works best where customers ask questions before they buy and where Google does not put a local business map above the results. On searches dominated by that map, a site without a physical location starts from behind no matter how good the content is.

What would this cost for my site? It depends on how many pages your niche needs and how crowded it is. Our starting thresholds for the build are on the pricing page, and the market ranges for a website are in how much a website costs.
